Day of the Dead Artist Feature: Pretty Lights
The 3rd installment of the HARD Day of the Dead mixtape series is by none other than Colorado’s own Derek Vincent Smith aka Pretty Lights, who will be making his HARD debut on November 3 at HARD Day of the Dead.
At a time when music lovers from almost all subcultures and genres are finding common ground in the form of bangin’ beats, Pretty Lights has created his own brand of “Electro Hip-hop Soul” – organic cutting-edge party rocking beats that fill venues with energy and emotion that send dance floors into frenzies.
Since 2006, Pretty Lights has released multiple full length albums, EPs and singles at no cost through his own Pretty Lights Music Label. To date, he has given away more than 18+ million free album downloads.
Earlier in 2013, Pretty Lights released his 5th album A Color Light of the Sun as well as the companion piece Live Studio Sessions from A Color Map of the Sun.. “I’ve completely switched up my process of producing and composing. The album was created from all originally composed samples off of self made vinyl and all analog modular synthesis,” says Smith. “It’s prolific, conceptual, consistent, yet extremely diverse, and a real substantial piece of music you can sink your teeth into.”
