if UGGs werent enough, this is what you look like... Like you could only afford part of a chewbacca costume.
hahaha that's fucking gold man! hahaha or this shit http://www.formotionproducts.com/images/Cousin-it.jpg
Its cool to be funky and out there but again it has nothing to do with the music at all when people dress like that.
Plus the word PLUR is just stupid anyways. They already have a word for PLUR... its called just being a decent human being... And what the hell does peace, love, unity and/or respect have anything to do with drugs and being half naked?
@Will: I think there's more to going to an event than simply listening to music. While all this stuff isn't strictly "for the music", it's part of the culture that people have tried to foster around the music they love. I think those people deserve a bit of respect for trying to build something, regardless of how shortsighted and cliche we think it is.
To the OP: Why not just appreciate it for what it is rather than taking potshots at an easy target? Yeah, they look kind of awkward, but then again everything we're wearing right now is going to look stupid in ten years. It's just the way fashion works.
@pseudonym
As true as that may be there is also a line and it has been crossed years ago. That is NOT the real EDM culture... Its years of misguided stereotypes passed down from generation to generation and most of it is related to drug use.
If this new age "Rave" culture or whatever they want to call themselves wants to dress up like that and cover themselves in beads thats cool... but just because they think its the "Rave" thing that does not means it applies to the whole EDM culture.
@Will: What is the "true" EDM culture? As far as drug use goes, yes, people use drugs, listen to music on drugs, and even write music for other people to listen to on drugs. We need to get over our collective guilt about drug use and accept the fact that not only does it happen, but that it doesn't compromise the integrity of EDM as a genre to accept it.
I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I never thought that everybody who's into EDM has to wear kandi and fuzzy boot covers. I think it's fine that HARD is doing their whole "anti-rave" thing; it's their event, their rules, whatever. Labeling people who do wear kandi as being drug users is going a bit far, though; it just strengthens the traditional stereotyping and discrimination that EDM fans in general have faced from the general public. Even if it's "justified", it's still a false association. Kandi is not paraphernalia -- you don't smoke out of it, shoot up with it, pop it, etc. Just because some lawmaker somewhere decided that you are a drug user simply because you're wearing something doesn't make it true, and I don't see why we all have to take that lying down.
I'm rambling at this point, but hopefully you get the idea. Basically, I'm just peeved about this whole "kandi = drug user" thing. Standard disclaimer, but I don't even wear kandi myself. I'm just in favor of allowing people to express themselves without fear of castigation.
LOL , I dont know if you remember the years when all the girls used to wear butterfly wings and theyd always hit you when you tried to pass. That shit was annoying. now these boots came along. I'd appreciate it if i shopped at hot topic, but i dont.
I remember clearly the day I thought they were stupid was at HARD 13 when the chick in the middle was having a seizure. She was wearing them and then rushed out to the hospital. I thought "WOW id hate to be dying with those things on, oh well, shes totally gonna miss out on boy 8-bit and fakeblood" so sad because that was an awesome night.
@pseudonym
I wasnt trying to generalize kandi kid with drug user haha. My apologies but what i was driving at is that this scene with the boots and stuff like that... well back in the day it was all kick wears and crazy hair and stuff like that.
I dont know call me old fashioned but the people today are more into the party than the music... Maybe i am taking it to the heart too much? Possibly.
I suppose i cant get mad for other people not taking it as seriously as i do... But i would appreciate more respect from this new young crowd.
I am happy you guys all finally discovered techno in its current mainstream glory but can we please take it down a peg or two?
@Will: Ah, yeah, I don't know, either. I do see what you mean about how the clothing and attitudes are fads that get in the way of being there simply for the music. On that note, I don't consider most EDM to be brilliant stuff. It's definitely cool and cutting edge, but when it comes down to it it's party music. The electronica that I do find deep and meaningful would either be too sobering or too weird for a party. *shrug*
I definitely do agree that people could mute their enthusiasm a little bit, or at least not be as blatant about the things that they probably shouldn't be blatant about. :\ Was that ambiguous enough? ;)
Also, gogos in furry boots are indeed pretty hot, haha. I have a theory that it has something to do with taking attention away from big thighs and skinny calves. But yeah, I'm pretty sure that the prevalence of girls wearing furry boots has more to do with every girl wanting to be a prima donna "dancer" rather than some desire to follow a wacky trend.
@Flippinsweetjosh
Everybody is saying that. Which sucks, because I went to my first EDC and my first HARD this summer, and it's like, now all I wanna do is go to HARD, but if it's lost something, then shit, I've missed out already!
@DarkHorse
Naw don't let this bum you out. HARD Haunted seems very promising bro, I hope this 18+ and no kandi, furry boots rules will turn things around. Plus, the line up is hella dope! Haven't seen such sick line up in years.
AHAHAHAH so true.
@DarkHorse
Its not that its missing anything its just changing. I guess if i really think about it the way we do things now arent parent approved haha.. Even my grandpa gives my dad the "Back in his day" speech.
I compare this with how i see EDM now a days because of how much i have seen it change.. Its just a huge culture shock now. I guess the EDM heads and the "i just want to party" people will have to learn to co exist.
@Josh
My whole thing is that i dont have a problem with people wanting to party but its just getting so immature and i mean as much as i like to see people my age wearing the boots and stuff i dont want to see anymore 14 year olds wearing that crap.
I dunno i am having problems adjusting lol
@Will
I feel you. It's difficult to adjust to what it once was and what it is now. I've been trying to also, but it's really difficult to ignore the loss of respect for the fellow party goers.

@Josh
Wow man... Right from Destructo himself.
"“If this stuff gets pegged as rave, it’s the death of it, because it just equals kids and drugs,” the 39-year-old continues. “It’s like a four-letter word.” The rave element of electronic-music culture—“kids with pacifiers and Elmo hands,” as he describes them—has been problematic for Richards. He blames a lack of maturity, an overabundance of Ecstasy and underagers’ tendency to try to sneak into his shows for many of the problems he’s had with HARD, especially in L.A. “All I do is LAPD, LAFD, city hall. I just came back from city hall today,” he says with a chuckle.
His passion for underground electronic music grew well before the trends for Technicolor tights, glow sticks and furry boots took hold. A family in the music industry—his brother has managed both Mudvayne and Slipknot—got him hooked at an early age. “My dad started on the radio in the ’60s,” Richards says. “We saw Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Kiss. Then in the late ’80s, I started going to these warehouse parties in downtown L.A.” "
Like i have always said... you younger people dont know the real history behind the EDM scene and this thing with the boots and stuff is just some weird fad that popped up out of no where.
Take it from a guy thats been doing this since before you were born ^^^
lolololololol
@I_SNORT_COCAINE
How about u stfu?
@HelloKitty
I don't see any "PLUR" in you.
Oh man, that term is the most ironic term I'll be using.
