Last night (Saturday, October 30) my friends and I attended HARD haunted mansion. While we arrived early already blasting beats, we quickly had dark omens of what was to come that night. 40 dollar parking is NEVER ok. I understand the principles of supply and demand, but even Disney is not so evil that they would charge 40 dollars for a spot in a massive parking garage AFTER paying $70+ for tickets. It was, to say the VERY least, absurd. After a few spins around the block we chanced upon a 10 dollar lot that we swiftly took advantage of. We got in Line at 530. At this time, nobody was yet being admitted. At 6 o'clock they began letting people in. It took an hour in line to get passed the initial ticket takers, at which time we found ourselves facing a mob of people, all of whom were confused as to what to do. Turns out HARD didn't think it was necessary to set up that much of a line system. Nor did they deem it necessary to hire competent security personel. Every individual was checked at an alarmingly slow rate, which at first I attributed to being a "thorough" search, but turns out was not at ALL a thorough search. Mostly, the individuals checking just didn't know how, or did it in an inefficient manner. This mob / decrepitly inadequate security took an hour and a half to get through, making our initial arrival into the actual event 740. Why would a venue EVER wait so long to start allowing people in? ESPECIALLY if they are as unorganized as last night? Ok, great, so we are in. The inside auditorium was fine, great sound great lights, outside awsome, airplanes flying over head through clouds was amazing. Porta potties all along the back looked tacky but were quite useful. Water $4 (pleasant surprise) and bands sounded great. The whole show, once you get through all the bullshit was amazing (due to people, not personel). In the future, however, if organizers are reading this, for the love of GOD, organize.
seems to me you haven't been to many events.
USC charges 20.00. Luckly I found free parking on Sat and Sun I paid 20, which was expected. A lot of people take advantage of events and charge for parking in their PRIVATELY owned areas. Meaning HARD has no control of what they charge.
Security staff is the same company almost if not every big event hires. It's not HARD's fault they tend to be inconsitent.
That area of LA tends to hold most massive events FYI.
Yeah, i found free parking to, just a 20 minute walk from the shrine. Not bad in my books.
Its harder than you think to get people organized... i mean EDC had lots of posted directions but due to people cutting and stuff like that the security had to be careful when they decided to let people in to avoid people rushing.
As far as parking i believe all the lots are private lots... HARD has no control over how much they charge... was the same at EDC as well.
I went both nights. Sunday's line went much quicker than Saturday's but, I still don't completely agree with what you said. Yeah 40 bucks is way too much for parking, but I think the USC game had something to do with that... Sunday the lot was only $20. I didn't end up paying for parking at all, I just parked 15-20 minutes (walking distance) down the street and it worked out both nights. Security was a definitely slow but not slow to the point where I was sitting there getting upset... Did you notice that music didn't start till 7 anyways? I dunno I guess I just wasn't really bothered by it.
Trust me... as a Los Angeles native for many many years... Your story with the parking is one thats told every day..
As far as the music getting started... yea at EDC we got in an hour late but they had people staring out over the line to get in and it wasnt until all the cutting and stuff stopped is when they opened the gate.
I know its frustrating but sometimes they are forced to take measures to ensure your saftey... you dont think about that kind of stuff but in the end its good to know that they are somewhat trying to look out for you.
i didn't have a problem finding parking on saturday. i paid $10 for parking and it was about a 5 minute walk from the shrine. and then the line was a bit ridiculous but that was expected. the event was sold out and it's not like you missed much considering the first dj didn't go on until 7pm. yeah i agree that it could've been organized better but i didn't have much of a problem.
