Insomniac, Inc. – the promoter for raves and other music shows - is suing the city of Los Angeles for cancelling an October concert at the L.A. Convention Center. Insomniac staged the Electric Daisy Carnival rave event at the Coliseum in June where a 15-year-old girl died of a suspected drug overdose.
Insomniac’s attorney John Lawrence says the L.A. Convention Center’s management ended the contract for the concert about two weeks ago. He says Insomniac has tried to change their minds ever since.
"Well, we want a concert," says Lawrence. "We don’t want a lawsuit."
The October 30 concert was to feature Tiesto, a popular electronic music DJ. Insomniac says it’s produced five sold-out Tiesto performances in L.A. in the last two years.
Lawrence says after a recent success at the Shrine Auditorium, his clients made a deal with the convention center. But that was before Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival at the Coliseum – and the death of 15-year-old attendee Sasha Rodriguez. Now, the convention center wants out of its deal with Insomniac.
Lawrence calls that a breach of contract. “The events are very, very different," says Lawrence. "This is a much more confined event in an arena venue with seating patrons and a show going on.”
The coliseum event’s age limit was 16 and older. Insomniac says it planned to limit the Tiesto concert to fans 18 or older. Convention center executives are not commenting on the lawsuit.

I still cant believe all the flak they are catching because of that one girl... Honestly if you can justify cancelling Tiesto because of EDC then might as well close down all fast food places for making peoplke unhealthy... lets close down all the liquor stores and bars because we cant risk people getting wasted....

I totally agree, this is getting absolutely ridiculous, the backlash from this one teenage girl. They're completely ignoring the lengths that Insomniac is going to with stricter security and everything to ensure a safer environment. I think scanning IDs and increasing police and security activity around the premises is a pretty effective measure. Look at the success of HARD Summer and Audiotistic. They have no reason to be treating this Tiesto thing like this other than they're still using the girl that died at EDC as justification to ban raves all together.

Well the legal system is a double edged sword. The city of Los Angeles is using it to make it hader to throw these events but at the same time Los Angeles already had contracts with the promoters this year... That is why Insomniac is involved in a lawsuit this time because they actually backed out of their contract and it wasnt just the city... the venue had the final say in cancelation.
Many parties are scheduled to go on as planned and i believe the moratorium has been lifted from the Collesium so hopefully 2011 will still have an EDC ect.
The outcome from EDC has affected all major promoters throwing events here... thats why there is no a strictly enforced age limit and i believe even city and/or county of San Bernadino has banned raves from public venues.
In my opinion the security and everything at EDC was very well planned out. It was ultimatley too many immature people that led to its demise. You will see it all over the local news... all you see are the dumbasses gate crashing and stuff like that.
I have said it before and ill say it again... Thanks for ruining it for everyone. You really are super cool now... idiots. -

I dunno man from my experience at EDC security was a joke, just like the other events I had been to in the past. I got there early in the day (around 12:30 on Friday) so I expected more thorough checks, but security was so overwhelmed with all the pushing and cutting that they had to speed things up so it basically ended up being a light pat down and a peek into my backpack (not that I had anything illegal in there, but theoretically I could've had a bag of pills and they never would have noticed). I mean I guess it's not securities fault, and it is ultimately the stupid kids that fucked up the whole process. But at the same time they shouldn't feel the need to speed up the line to cater to the kids, security is security, they should stand their ground and make everyone deal with the wait.

Wow that sucks man... After Six years too without incident. As far as EDC you can only do so much i mean we as human beings have to work together with the security and people at the venue.
This is why its +18 now but it looks like for some promoters even that isnt enough anymore. -
If you think about it, people die and get sent to the hospital a lot (and have died and have gotten sent to the hospital for a very long time) at raves/concerts/parties. This "sudden death" is nothing new. And it's not going to change because of an age restriction. Kids are still going to do drugs that night, whether they do it at their school, their house, on the streets, at the park, their friend's house, the list could go on forever. They are still going to be stupid and die. It's unfortunate, it's blunt, but it's the plain truth.
The irresponsible mother of an irresponsible child has caused so much trouble for me and my fellow minors. It really sucks that I got to attend Hard Haunted Mansion when I was 16 and now that I'm 17, a year older, I'm too young to go. I've never seen Burns, Busy P, Underworld, Calvin Harris or Mr. Oizo, and who knows if I'll ever get the chance to again. Who knows if they will die in a plane crash, or if I'll get hit by a bus and die. My friends always tell me there will always be another show, another band, another DJ, but I don't think that's the right way to live. I mean, really, I'm not trying to grow up too fast, but I am really passionate about this type of music and this whole 18+ thing is really fucking with me. I graduated high school early and am more or less surrounded by people who are of age for the events and it's not cool that I have to hear about them going to Love Fest (my first rave) Nocturnal, Trouble & Bass anniversary, webster hall shows in nyc, THIS... I just hope I'm not at home this halloween giving out candy with my little sister because all my friends are out doing something I'm not old enough to be doing. It's my last halloween in LA and it would be horrible if I had to go out like that. -

Yea i think its sad that a few people have ruined it for the bunch but its their arrogance and childish behavior that are responsible. Its the reason why people like me that can manage two tasks at once cannot now answer a cell phone call while driving.
The good thing is that you are going to live a very long and fullfilling life and i promise that when you are of age... that year will be the best lineup anyone has ever seen..
How do i know this? I cant tell you... just try and act surprised.
Take the time though to attend all age parties and do fun stuff on the weekends like go carting ect.
I know it sounds lame but trust me... when you think about all the stuff you CANT do you tend to forget all the really cool stuff you actually CAN do :D -
